Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires that Eastern International College, with certain exceptions, obtain your written consent prior to the disclosure of personally, identifiable information from your education records. FERPA rights belong to students who attend postsecondary institutions in person, through correspondence, or through electronic “distance learning”.
They are: 1. The right to inspect and review the student’s education records within 45 days of the date the College receives a request for access.
2. The right to request the amendment of a student’s education record that the student believes is inaccurate or misleading.
3. The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
4. The right to file a complaint with the US Department of Education concerning alleged failures by College to comply with the requirements of FERPA. The College reserves the right to make public, without the student’s consent, “directory information,” in particular, the student’s name, address, age, sex, dates of registration, major, and degree. Students who wish not to have directory information released must notify the Registrar’s Office in writing each year.
