Working in allied health provides a vast array of rewarding experiences, especially for those who study non-invasive echocardiography. Whether you’re performing diagnostic cardiovascular imaging or simply helping patients prepare for procedures, you’ll make a true impact on each patient’s life. If you’re interested in a career as a cardiovascular technologist, the Cardiovascular Technology Program (CVT-AAS) at Eastern International College offers hands-on training and classroom instruction to prepare graduates for entry-level positions.

A Closer Look at the Cardiovascular Technology Program

The Cardiovascular Technology Program (CVT-AAS) provides the training required to perform non-invasive sonographic procedures in adult echocardiography. The cardiovascular academic program includes theoretical and clinical instruction, as well as professional and ethical concepts that prepare students for the demands of the profession. The degree is appropriate for individuals seeking entry-level positions and has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Graduates of the program complete 66 credits over 24 months, including 20 general education credits and 46 credits in their major program of study. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree that confirms they are prepared to capture quality diagnostic imaging, properly use relevant imaging technologies, and work in professional allied health environments.

Program Coursework and Goals

Cardiovascular Technology Program students complete several courses that address core topics in non-invasive adult echocardiography, including procedures, communication, cultural sensitivity, and professional conduct. Course topics include:

  • Introduction to Cardiovascular Technology (CVT 101)
  • Patient Assessment (CVT 104)
  • Pharmacology (CVT 105)
  • Physics and Instrumentation (CVT 106)
  • Physics and Instrumentation II (CVT 107)
  • EKG and Interpretation (CVT 200)
  • Pathophysiology (CVT 202)
  • Vascular (CVT 203)
  • Echocardiography I (CVT 204)
  • Echocardiography II (CVT 205)
  • Test and Registry Review (CVT 206)
  • Externship (CVT 210)

General education courses contribute to a well-rounded program that delivers the skills and experience needed to compete for sought-after jobs in the field. Additionally, the externship program allows students to work directly with a supervising physician or qualified technologist in a real-world setting, such as a hospital, private clinic, or imaging facility. This clinical rotation enables you to perform relevant non-invasive procedures and includes professional education to prepare you for your first job in the field.
