EIC’s Dental Hygiene Program Gives Local Children a Healthy Smile

Eastern International College (EIC) hosted its third annual Give Kids A Smile Day event at their Jersey City Campus on February 3, 2017. Over 60 children arrived from the Golden Door Charter School and the surrounding community to receive free pediatric dental health care. The event honors Children’s Dental Health Month and the American Dental Association’s commitment to provide all communities access to dental services.

The first-graders were greeted by 63 students, 20 volunteers, and dental staff at EIC’s dental hygiene clinic located on the third floor of 684 Newark Ave. in Jersey City. Some of the free dental health services provided to the children were cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and exams by a dentist. While some of the children were waiting, they were treated to a range of different activities to keep them entertained including a visit from a tooth fairy, balloon animals, and face painting,

For 15 years Give Kids a Smile Day has successfully helped to raise awareness among children and families all over the nation about dental care and untreated dental disease. The event also offers these children and their families information on where they can receive or may have access to dental health services in their own community, including Jersey City. The ADA’s website states, “More than five million underserved children have received free oral health services over the last 13 years with the support of the ” ADA Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile program .”
